Tournament Rules

 

 

 

 

Facility Seating and Admission Fee

All facilities will have courtside seating. Only players and coaching staff are allowed on the team bench. Daily admission as well as Wristbands that are valid for the entire tournament will be sold. Costs are as follows: Children 10 and under are free. AU students, faculty and staff with valid ID card are $7.00 entire tournament, or $5.00 daily. All other guests are $15.00 for the tournament wristband or 10.00 daily admission. There will be VIP ($20) seating for the Championship Games on Saturday night available in the ACW Rec Center.

 

Tournament Schedule and Guidelines

The tournament schedule will be posted online at aucardinals.com and inside the ACW Rec Center. Scores will be updated regularly. Saturday evening games will be posted as soon as the pairings, time and location are determined.

The team listed first will be the home team and will wear light colored jerseys.

Teams should bring both home and away jerseys to all games in case one team only has one jersey color.

The home team bench is right of the scorer’s table while viewing it from center court.

Official scorers and timekeepers will be provided; however, teams are welcome to have their scorekeeper sit at the scorer’s table if room permits.

Each school needs to provide a qualified individual to be present on the court to assess and respond to your athlete, in the event of an injury.

 

Game Rules

NFHS rules apply except for rules outlined with an *.

*8 minute quarters with a 3 minute halftime.

Clock stops on all whistles.

2-shot free-throw bonus begins on the 5th foul by a team per quarter.

All games will begin on time.

No game will begin before the scheduled start time.

Coaches should arrange to have their teams at the appropriate facility at least 20 minutes prior to game time.

*Teams will be given a minimum of a 3-minute warmup period. Additional warm-up time may be given in time permits.

*Teams will be penalized 2 points for each minute they are late until the penalized team has at least 3 players ready for play. No warm-up time is given to a team that is not present by their game time. The tournament director will have the final say in matters disputed by participating teams.

*Forfeiture will occur if a team is more than 15 minutes late for their scheduled game time. Forfeited games will result in a +11 point differential.

 

Tournament Rules

*Mercy Rule: Clock becomes continuous in the second half if the point differential is 20 points or more. Regular timing procedures will resume if the differential becomes 10 or less points. If the 20-point rule applies, the clock will stop only during time-outs and injuries.

*Each team is allowed 4 (30 second) timeouts per game. Each team is given 1 additional timeout per overtime session.

*First two overtime sessions will last 2 minutes.

*After the second overtime, games will be decided by a sudden death format: first team to score 2 or more points wins.

*In the spirit of good sportsmanship a team may not full-court press when up by 20 or more points in the second half. The first violation will result in a warning being issued to the offending team’s head coach. The second violation will result in a technical foul being issued to the offending team’s head coach.

 

Tie Breaker Rules

Head to head competition will not break a three way tie. Three way ties will be decided first by the point differential; second, points allowed; and third, total points scored.

 

Coach, Player, and Fan Conduct

Any coach or player who receives two technical fouls in a game will be disqualified for the remainder of the game. Any coach or player disqualified from a game will also be disqualified from their teams next scheduled game.

Any coach ejected from a game may not attend his/her team’s next scheduled game as a coach or a fan.

Any player ejected from a game may stay in the gym, but must leave the bench area. Players who have been ejected must attend the following game and sit on the team bench, but must not wear their team uniform.

Any coach or player ejected twice within the tournament will not be permitted to return to the tournament or any game facilities.

Any fan ejected from a game will be suspended for the remainder of that game and will be required to physically leave the game facility. A fan who has been ejected may return to the next game at the discretion of the tournament director with the understanding that the next ejection will mean being expelled from the entire tournament.

The tournament director and tournament staff have the right to remove from the tournament any player, coach, or fan who displays improper behavior.

Any team with an ejection will not be eligible for the sportsmanship award.

 

 

Awards

Team and individual trophies will be given in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions following the boys’ division one championship game on Saturday evening.

Team trophies will be given to the first and second place teams in each division.

A single player from each team will be selected to the boys’ and girls’ All-Tournament Teams.

One coach may be chosen for exceptional leadership and sportsmanship to receive the Clyde Newmyer Leadership Award.

One team will be chosen for their outstanding sportsmanship on and off the court to receive a team sportsmanship award. The team that represents Christ-like behavior both during and between games. Behaviors that will be observed include but are not limited to congratulations on exceptional play, assistance of players that have been knocked down to stand, acceptance of officials calls, exhibiting the spirit of the game when winning or losing, cheerfulness, appropriate behavior during the handshake, etc.
